Indigenous: Surfing Australia is committed to establishing and maintaining strong sustainable links with our indigenous communities. Our state branches drive this iniative by delivering over 100 indigenous programs annually throughout Australia. As leaders in indigenous sport programming surfing will be used as a vehicle for future research into the long term benefits of sport for indigenous communities.

Disabilites: Surfing Australia has just been granted gold status in the Sports CONNECT Program by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). Sports CONNECT is a program developed by the ASC to assist sports to assess their current strategies for programs for those with physical and mental disabilities.

Women: Surfing Australia has two honorary women's representatives who work with the Sports Development Manager to identify ways of increasing women's participation in surfing. Surfing Australia currently works with the manufacturing industry to develop and present women’s programs. In 2009, Rip Curl held the Girls Go Surfing Days targeting this particular market.

Surfing underpins an important part of the Australian coastal fabric. It forms part of a lifestyle in which millions participate and a mystique in which many more millions have a documented ineterest.

Opportunity: Surfing Australia aims to ensure Australians have the opportunity to participate in surfing in a way that brings them health, enjoyment, well being, recognition or any other outcomes they may desire.

Interest: Today, one third of all Australians have a documented interest in surfing whilst 14% or 2.5 million Australians actively participate in this activity.
